Lehmann is regularly invited to serve as an external reviewer and evaluator for major funding bodies and as a juror for international design competitions. Over the past 20 years, he has been called upon by leading agencies across 15 countries to assess large grant applications — including for the European Commission (Horizon Europe), the UK Research Council, UKRI, the Dutch Research Council, the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, British Council Newton Fund, Swiss National Science Foundation, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the Australian Research Council.
In 2021, he was appointed International Advisor to the Dutch Research Council (NWO, 2021–2024), and to the Standing Review Board of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (HKRGC, 2021–2025).
Lehmann has also served as external evaluator for faculty promotion reviews at twelve institutions worldwide.
