Lehmann has more than 30 years of lecturing and teaching experience in advanced design studios, with a well-regarded expertise in design methodology and pedagogy. He commenced teaching architectural design studio in 1991 at North London Polytechnic. Since then, he has taught intensive design research studios at leading universities across six countries, developing effective strategies to maximise student engagement and outcomes.

His teaching spans urban and architectural design studios, and research methods — delivered across the US, UK, Europe, Australia, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. He is a strong advocate for design thinking and the applied humanities as essential tools for addressing the challenges facing cities today, from climate change adaptation to economic recovery and social community wellbeing.

His students have gone on to win prestigious awards for their studio projects, and all of his former PhD students have established careers in academia.
